East Essex Tri Christmas present to the Wheelers

Southend Wheelers Cycling Club and East Essex Triathlon Club (EETri) demonstrated the strength between them recently as EETri sponsored the hire for Canewdon Village Hall for the first three months of 2008.

Every Sunday throughout 2007 meeting at 10am, EETri have joined Southend Wheelers at their adopted Canewdon base for their weekly training and social cycle rides.

These regular rides have provided a welcoming atmosphere and the opportunity for families and cyclists alike to ride together in an environment where they can mix with club cyclists, whilst receiving advice from club coaches at the same time. John Smith from East Essex Tri said; ‘what Southend Wheelers have provided here has not been equalled anywhere locally and is brilliant for all. Many of our members ride out to Canewdon after their own training rides, where they meet up with their families for a more leisurely ride. We have also witnessed, due to its popularity, people just visiting the village hall for tea and cakes where everyone shares a story.’

John continues; ‘Due to traffic levels in the Southend area it is very difficult to find safe roads for all cyclist to ride on. However the Canewdon area, because of its quiet roads it is an ideal area for our youngsters to improved their roads skills from complete novice riders into confident riders able to ride in a group.’

If you are a local cyclist and looking for ride that suits your ability then why not go out to Canewdon village hall on a Sunday morning. The cyclists there will be more than please to see you, tea, coffee and cake is also available.
