The club currently has over 200 members of varying ages, abilities and triathlon aspirations, whether it be to complete their first sprint distance or another Ironman. Obviously it is not possible to create an environment that fits perfectly with everyone’s training requirements but we can produce generic plans that will help everyone reach their goals. Some plans can be found below but please feel free to talk to any club coach about what you want to achieve in the sport and they will be more than happy to discuss your specific issues. All plans below are based around existing EETC training sessions and other regular sessions that members are known to participate in.
We
recommend that all triathletes speak to an
Sprint
and Standard (Olympic) Distance
These training plans are for a complete novice coming into the sport. For those with a background in one of the disciplines the sessions in that discipline may seem light; it is okay to increase the time or effort for those sessions to match what you are used to doing but don’t increase the frequency of the sessions, your efforts must be towards the other two events to help you become a good all round triathlete. For those who want bespoke plans to reach a specific performance level in an event you should talk to one of the club coaches directly although may need to use the services of a professional coach for best results.

12 week plan for a Standard (Olympic) Distance event
Ironman
and Ironman 70.3 (Half Ironman)
East Essex Tri Club do not encourage or promote these distance races for beginners, whilst taking on such a challenge is feasible we feel it brings with it unacceptable levels of risk and could lead to a bad experience that causes the triathlete to leave the sport. We therefore strongly recommend all our members spend time building their triathlon experience across the shorter distance races. Having said that, we will always give the best advice we can to those who wish to go long straight away.
The following plans assume the triathlete has a level of experience in shorter distance races and is comfortable with training sessions of 3 hours, 1.5 hours and 1 hour for Bike, Run and Swim respectively.
