Dates for your diary |
There will be a BBQ again this year for adult members at the Rawreth Cricket Club, Rawreth Lane, Rayleigh on the 12th September. Times and costs will be advertised later. This years mob match against Tri Sport Epping will be at Lakeside on Saturday 20th September. We've not done too well over the last couple of years in this race, so we need as many people as possible to turn up for the club and help regain our rightful place as the best local club!! If you don't want to race then we also need volunteers to help time and marshall the event.

Ipswich Kids Triathlon |
Just a reminder to everyone competing at Sunday's Ipswich Kids Triathlon, that East Essex Tri will be staying behind at the end of the Triathlon as per previous years. We will be laying on some snacks and this years theme will be 'NATIONAL DRESS' of foreign countries. So all competitors will be expected to wear fancy dress, as will parents. No excuses!! Make an effort to mark another year in triathlon for the Club. Also, could any team trophys from last year please be returned to ensure we have an opportunity to win them again this year.

Hogg Hill Cycling Venue |
The offical opening of the Hogg Hill Cycling venue will take place on 19th August. This is a great opportunity to see the purpose made venue which has brought back a cycling track to the area after Eastway was closed to make way for the Olympics at Stratford. John Smith has contacted Trevor Mills regarding the issue of Licence's for our Tri Team members, and he has advised that these can be obtained on the day. This is really a great venue and John Smith would really recommend going to have a look / ride on the day. There will be so many people around who can advise on a number of activity's, road racing, mountain biking, and cycle cross. Anyone can go, so get all your friends to go along with you its only at Hanualt just past the Golf Course. See the attached document for the day's programme.

Richard finished in 25th place in a pretty strong field. Paul Horsley regains his leading position on the Vets league with yet another impressive performance at Safron Walden. Paul finished in 18th place with strong bike and run split times. |

EETC Club Championship 2008 |
The Harwich Sprint Triathlon on 21st June plays host to the EETC Club Championship for 2008. Race instructions can be found on the Harwich Triathlon Website. As with previous years we also have a handicap cup available this year. The handicap values can be seen here. Handicaps are calculated based on points scored in last year's triathlons. The results were taken from (in order) Braintree, Blackwater, Grays and finally any other league event in 2007. Where a member didn't compete in any of last years races then a default handicap value of either 80 or 85 (for men) and 63 (for women) have been set. If you have any questions about the handicap values or how they were calculated please speak to Neil Lynch, Richard Fuller or John Smith. This will be the largest gathering of competing EETC members at a single race this year. To make our presence really felt you are all strongly requested to wear your club colours - while racing and pre/post race. If previous championships are anything to go by then this event promises to be a very loud and exciting day out at the races!! Don't forget the post race hog roast! |

Lakeside Open Water Swimming - Update |
Tri Sport Epping have asked us to mention to club members that new restrictions have been added to their Open Water swimming sessions at Lakeside. They require that anyone coming must already be a confident pool swimmer capable of swimming 1000m Front Crawl non-stop. Whilst we don't anticipate that this will be an issue for our members, we would ask you to contact us if you have any queries or concerns (richard@east-essex-tri-club.co.uk). Please also remember to bring your EETC membership card with you to the swim sessions as you may be asked for proof of your East Essex membership during registration. |

Lakeside Open Water Swimming - Update |
The good news is that open water swimming will begin on Saturday 17th May at Lakeside. Tri Sport Epping have asked that we point out the following information: i) These are unsanctioned sessions now and led by "lead swimmers" who happen to be Level 2 coaches. ii) The new owner of the lake insists on all swimmers/canoists signing a disclaimer prior to the session. iii) He also allows other users on the lake - Anglers notably, so we have to give them a wide berth. Safety breifing will cover all of this. iv) Until the water warms up - no novices please. Cramp is prevalent this time of year so sessions are shorter. It was a tropical 12 degrees when Tri Sport Epping ran a test last Saturday so hope the warm weather continues before we join the swimming again! |
