South Essex Cross Country League (aka The Today Runners League)

Team Results and league positions

Race Information and individual race results

One Tree Hill

So the fat lady has sung and the positions are now known. Firstly, many congratulations to individual winners Trotter Ryan Prout (30:24) and Benfleet's Tracy Ward (0:33:44).

As for Division 1 an extremely tight season was rounded off with three fantastic scores, 113 for Benfleet was 10 shy of Thrift Green's 103 meaning that the league was won by Thrift Green by a single point.

In Division 2 East Essex came through with a comprehensive win on the day which enabled them to win the league by a single point.

Now can I ask you all to doff your cyber hats in commiseration for our league heroes Castle Point who, valiant as they were, were unable to slay the dragon of Ford Fitness. Lord Ford Fitness himself did not complete the course; when he saw how muddy it was he was worried about the mess he'd make of his socks so limped off. The only downside to this was that I didn't see it (seriously, hope you recover quickly Rob). So next year will see a five match triathlon challenge between East Essex and Tri Sport Ford with East Essex determined to right the wrong inflicted on poor Castle Point.

See you all next year

Weald Park

A few less people were at Weald Park following the massive turnout at Thorndon. At the front Crispin Bloomfield got lost on his home course so was unable to compete for the win which was taken by Trotter Ryan Prout. Rumours had it that Crispin was using a SatNav provided by Ford.

For the ladies Teresa Ward of Ford was using altogether more reliable equipment as she took the ladies prize; this certainly brought a smile to his Lord Ford Fatness Rob Fullbrook as he basked in the glory and the fact that Castle Point will need to find some real form in the final race to send Ford back to where they belong.

In the league and it's congratulations to Benfleet with a score of 107, holding off the Trotters by 9. With both teams on 17 points they have everything to play for in the final race.

The second division too has come down to the wire with a straight race between Havering and East Essex for the title. Havering managed a clear 52 point win over East Essex so the scores are level on 18.

Thorndon Park

A massive turnout of over 260 people for today's race; good to see that New Labour's Healthy Britain is alive and kicking in South Essex.

Crispin Bloomfield continued his one man assault on the Cross Country series with his third win in succession and no-one looks like taking him in the last two races barring injury, illness or some underhand move by league bad boys Tri Sport Ford. Once again too, the ladies was won by Benfleet Running Club, this time in the guise of Stacey Ward. Congratulations to both.

Onto the league and Thrift Green must have been expecting the win with an excellent 135 points (particularly good given the size of the field) but their hopes were dashed by an incredible 116 points for Benfleet. Elsewhere in division one groans were heard when the results were announced and again the insipid blues of Tri Sport Ford had beaten the Royal Blues of Castle Point.

The second division saw back to back wins for East Essex with Havering coming in second followed by Barking and Pitsea. For the second race in a row Phoenix didn't compete.

Hadleigh

Deja-vu wasn't just happening at the Odeon this weekend but on Hadleigh Downs too as Stubbers winners Crispin Bloomfield and Karen Goode led the men and ladies again.

Onto the league and the scorers had to check and recheck the numbers in the closest of finishes at the top of division 1. In the end Billericay pipped Thrift Green Trotters by a single point. How significant could that be at the end of the season? I'm sure one or two Billericay racers will be sitting with their cup of ovaltine tonight recalling that overtaking manoeuvre in the last 50m that brought home the bacon while the trotters had none.

Onto the second and a few changed places with East Essex overtaking Havering to win the league. New boys Phoenix didn't show up but I'm sure they'll be looking to rise from the flames at the next race (Thorndon),

Castle Point had a fantastic result over hapless Tri Sport Ford who are finding life with the big boys a little bit scary

Stubbers

Many thanks to Havering for putting on an excellent event once again at Stubbers. Congratulations to mens winner Crispian Bloomfield and ladies winner Karen Goode. Good wins for Thrift Green Trotters and Havering in leagues 1 and 2 respectively.

A scrappy start for Ford Fitness who scrape through their Division 1 debut with a dodgy 4th place. Club coach Simon (less than) Jolly was let down by his guests from the second best Triathlon club in Essex and thinks Club manager Rob (who was unavailable for comment) may be warming up his hairdryer to blast his team should they perform like that again at Hadleigh.

Full results will be available below when received from Havering.

The Result sheets can be selected by clicking on them below. Care - this year there are two sheets to complete:-

  • Scoresheet A contains the first 5 males, first 2 male vets, first 2 females and first female vet only. This must be returned to the race organiser as soon as possible to enable the results to be produced quickly.
  • Scoresheet B contains all other finishers for your club; this must be completed and passed to the race organiser with all scoring discs and payment for competitors subsequently.
