Hadleigh Downs - Benfleet - 16 March 2008
Many congratulations to The Trotters for a clear win in division 1 of the league this year. Finishing in style with an impressive 118 points, 30 clear of second place Benfleet.
In the second division we see a first win in some time for Barking but that couldn't stop Havering wrapping up the league after winning the first four events
For East Essex it has been a long time coming and the reason this entry is one week late is because no-one in East Essex have been sober enough to write anything since then. East Essex stay in Division 1; they would like it to be known that they single-handedly saw Ford Fitness returned to their rightful place. Bad luck Ford, I guess you think it was close, we'd rather just say we paced ourselves better.
See you all next season
One Tree Hill - Pitsea - 2 March 2008
Most importantly, the lady in distress at the far end of the course is okay, she suffered an asthma attack but was feeling much better before being taken to Basildon Hospital for a check over.
Onto the race itself and Ryan Prout won his fourth event in a row for Thrift Green Trotters with Karen Goode leading the ladies for Benfleet.
Thrift Green Trotters won in Division 1 and are champions all bar the shouting. In Division 2 a fourth win in a row for Havering sees them promoted.
That just leaves the Relegation battle from Division 1 to Division 2. The Fat Lady is clearing her voice and it's not "bye bye East Essex" she's proposing to sing. Far be it from me to claim dirty tricks but after a friendly chat with Fitness' chairman I started the race only to find my shoelace undone - I'll let you as readers to make your own minds up.
Thorndon Park - Thrift Green Trotters - 10 February 2008
After waking up to an icy morning it would not have been obvious that the biggest health risk for this race would be sunstroke. A really beautiful day to run around the fields and woods of Thorndon although the strobe lighting it induced in the woods, along with the tree roots (extremely well marked by the marshals) did offer some risk of twisted ankles.
Three out of three for Ryan Prout and Nicki Juniper (or Jupiter as announced - a truly stellar performance) as Thrift Green Trotter won the overall tie with a very impressive 113 points, 44 clear of their nearest rival, Billericay. At the other end Tri Sport Ford let it be known they won't go down without a fight as they held off East Essex by 20 points to pinch the all important fourth place. Even Andy Dawbarn's Christie-esque sprint to pip Ford Secretary Jolly on the line could affect the result. Actually, we knew FF meant business when we saw Rob Fulbrook leading the line dancing (or was it warm up?) before the race.
Into division 2 and Havering gave themselves a massive boost by winning three in a row and giving themselves a near unassailable lead in the table.
Thanks to the Trotters for another great race in a great venue and a handsome offering of cake.
Weald Park - Billericay Striders - 13 January 2007
Business as usual at the front of the field with both Ryan Prout and Nicky Juniper of the Trotters wining the men's and ladies races respectively and this time their efforts were not in vain as Thrift Green went on to win the tie with a highly impressive 93 points. This is the first sub 100 score in at least 3 years (certainly didn't happen in 2005 or 2006).
Second Division saw a send win for Havering matching their two wins in 2005/6 and 2006/7 but this time with three races to go.
Many congratulations to F-F-F-Ford Fitness who managed a highly creditable 418 points which should see them in a strong middle table position in division 2 next season.
Stubbers - Havering 90 - 9 December 2007
The other venues have something to live up to after the quality of the cakes supplied by Havering 90 today. Doing my best impression of Egon Ronay I attempted to test all offerings put forward and can safely say I'd be happy to award them a Michelin Tyre.
The Trotters brought a strong team which led to wins in both the ladies (Nicky Juniper) and men's (Ryan Prout) competitions but this was not enough to stop Benfleet winning the tie with a highly impressive 140 points. Regarding the rest of the division the lines have been drawn with the big 3 all coming in below 200 while East Essex and .f.f.f.f.Fitness struggling with their own battle for first division survival.
In the second division Havering were cake powered as they won with a total of 274 points disappointing Castle Point who must have had some confidence when they turned in 316. In a change to the announced results, Pitsea came fourth ahead of Phoenix.
The Chairman of f.f.f.f.Fitness was most complementary to the Chairman of East Essex at the end of the race but everyone saw through this as a clumsy ploy to ingratiate himself with the author of the match report and get a good write-up for f.f.f.f.Fitness- sorry Mr f.f.f.f.Fullbrook, anything short of outright bribery will be insufficient. Perhaps you should instead spend your time teaching your team how to tie up their shoe laces (Mr Brooks can explain).
