And there we have it for another season. Many congratulations to Benfleet with a strong showing throughout the season led by some excellent results in the ladies competition. Congratulations to East Essex too who will be moving into Division 1 to take on the big boys (and Tri Sport Epping) next season.
Dunton saw a great effort from Rob Warner as he made it 5 out of 5 times for first man home in division 1 while Crispin Bloomfield made it 4 out of 5 for the first division. For the ladies Jo Sullivan of East Essex led the div 2 ladies for the second time this season whilst Billericay's Claire Baglin bagged her second win in div 1.
For the team event in div 2 East Essex wrapped up a complete clean sweep with 5 wins out of 5 but they were pushed all the way by Barking who performed consistently strongly throughout the season. Pitsea performed strongly to take third but Havering's fourth place gave them second place overall; commiserations to Dagenham who's lack of runners proved too much of a handicap by the end of the season.
In div 1 we sadly say goodbye to Castle Point but we know they'll be back challenging next season. Thrift Green Trotters scored a very respectable sub 300 but Billericay were comfortably third and Benfleet broke the 200 point barrier to clinch second.
This just leaves me to pass on the bad news that the race was won by Tri Sport Epping who finished second in the league overall. I was able to find out how this was done - see TSE's route setup below - yellow route for the race and the blue for TSE!

See you all next season
Race 4 - Gloucester Park - 30 January 2011
Thanks to Glynn Williams who once again has taken some excellent photos of the race. A selection here for East Essex and a full complement at his website, www.photoboxgallery.com/glynnfreemansportsphotography
Over 200 athletes enjoyed the fine though slightly chilly weather as the South Essex Cross Country League paid its second visit to Gloucester Park hosted by East Essex Tri. Team wise it was a familiar story with Benfleet having an emphatic win in division 1 and East Essex in division 2. Congratulations to Benfleet on taking an unassailable lead in division 1, East Essex must wait for the last event to be sure although Dagenham will need a full team to give any chance of promotion to Barking
The really scary statistic is that Tri Sport Epping have a chance of finishing second in division 1 - come on Billericay, something needs to be done about this sorry state of affairs. I'm sure the rest of the league won't mind you fielding as many ringers as you want to ensure TSE don't get it (I may be forced to resign after that comment!)
Billericay's Crispin Bloomfield was a familiar face at the head of the field whilst Dominic Ballard kept the Benfleet ladies' fine form going with a good win. In division 2 Havering's Rob Warner in overall second claimed the first place and East Essex's Jo Sullivan's 4th gave her the trophy.
Race 3 - Thorndon Park - 16 January 2011

The sun shone on Thorndon Park, a welcome change from the snow and ice from Hadleigh Downs. The sun also shone on Benfleet and East Essex again as they both won their respective divisions giving them maximum points from three events. Benfleet's 98 points was 10 shy of their Hadleigh score but nonetheless to score under 100 in two events in the same season, especially with such a large field (266 runners) represents a great performance.
Talking of great performances, the first division winners were Crispin Bloomfield (Billericay), his second win of the year and Benfleet's Nicola Brendin for her first. In division 2 Rob Warner again led the way with Havering team mate Debbie Appleton giving their club reason for a double celebration.
Other league positions saw Trotters achieve their first second of the season, edging out Tri Sport Epping who are unfortunately punching way above their weight right now with Billericay edging out poor Castle Point who are beginning to have the look of Avram Grant about them. In Division two Barking are still enjoying some great success in second with Havering claiming their third third in three races although Pitsea were probably one good runner short of taking that place. Dagenham's small team saw them finishing fifth.
Onto the mountains of Gloucester Park in two weeks.
Race 2 - Hadleigh Downs - 12 December 2010

Well done to Benleet Running club for getting todays race on through the snow and ice; just one small change to the normal course to avoid a particularly slippy area but, let's face it, we all expect to end up on our backside once when running on the Downs!
Benfleet really put their A team out with an incredibly strong 88 points which was four times better than their nearest rivals Tri Sport Epping. Yes, you didn't misread that, perennial second division team Tri Sport Epping somehow managed to work their way up the first division leaderboard and are now sitting third overall. Unfortunately, in the all-important Triathlon team challenge they once again failed to keep pace with their sworn enemies, second division leaders East Essex Tri. . Billericay managed to pip Castle Point into third place while Thrift Green brought up the rear. Rumours abound that a certain tall gentleman, who will shall refer to as Ron Emptystream, released 20 Thrift Green Trotter from a holding pen in Dunton 2 hours after the race; so far we have been unable to substantiate these claims.
Division 2 saw a good result for East Essex but Barking continued their great form with a second second in two weeks. Havering finished third again whereas Pitsea swapped places with Dagenham 88 from Weald Park for fourth place.
Onto the individuals and some new names grace the rostrum; in division 1 Scott Stirling and Karen Goode, both of Benfleet took the honours and in division 2 Rob Warner of Havering and Zena Shean of East Essex had their names writ large on the history of the Hadleigh Cross Country.
I hope everyone has a great Christmas and happy new year; we can do it all again on Sunday 16 January at Thorndon Park
Race 1 - Weald Park - 28 November 2010

Well done to Billericay Striders for once putting on an excellent race at South Weald and for the extra work in making the event happen alongside another event on the same day; I think everyone was pleased with the extra 30 minutes in bed.
Onto the individual results and this year there will be individual prizes for both the first and second division best performers, Weald's winners were:-
Congratulations to these and everyone else who took part and completed.
For the race itself division 1 is looking nip and tuck between Billericay and Benfleet with the latter getting the edge by 6 points with a very impressive 130 points. Thrift Green are sure to bounce back and come into the mix at some point during the season. The strictly legal Tri Sport Epping team managed to bully Castle Point out of fourth place so the whole league will be holding their breath to see if CP can discover the form we all want from them to see Tri Sport Epping returned to their rightful place, division 2.
Onto division 2 and a clear win for East Essex Tri (beating Tri Sport Epping score) and a strong performance in second for Barking. Rob Warner's strong performance enabled Havering to come in third with Pitsea pipping Dagenham.
Onto Hadleigh for round 2.
