One Tree Hill - 15 February

After a 9 week break the Cross Country League started again today and we can be pleased about how much bad weather we missed in between. The weather today was perfect for Cross Country and add the soggy conditions to give an excellent morning's entertainment.

Crispin Bloomfield carried on where he left off by winning the men's race but for the ladies it was not only a new winner but a new team with East Essex's Lorreta Sollars interrupting Benfleet's domination of the league.

Onto the teams and Benfleet have an unassailable lead at the top of division one and can start booking their coach for the national finals. At the other end East Essex drew level with Havering so they have a straight head to head next week to decide who stays and who drops.

Onto division 2 and Castle Point look to be home and dry after a dismal performance from Ford Fitness. Club Chairman Rob Fulbrook had changed his recruiting tactics with a begging email to everyone in the world to turn up to give them a chance, including chairmen of other clubs! I understand the email had so many recipients that just sending it took down the Internet for two and a half days.  As far as promotion goes Ford's have two chances (Fat and Slim) and two hopes (No and Bob) in fact, Ford's are going to struggle to hold off this year's top improvers Barking who moved to within a point of the powdery blues.

Thorndon park - 14 December

A nice day for a run, especially if your name is Crispin Bloomfield or Stacey Ward who won the men's and ladies race respectively. For Stacey this is three in a row and she'll be confident going into the New Year of further success.

Benfleet's run of form continues with a 42 point win over the hosts for the event, Thrift Green Trotters. Billericay managed a very solid 3 place with Havering edging out East Essex for fourth place.

Into division 2 and Castle Point strengthened their position in the league with a massive 36 point lead over the pretenders of Ford who in turn managed an extremely scrappy 32 point lead over fast improving Barking. Pitsea held off Phoenix for fourth place.

Stubbers - 23 November

Apologies for the delay in getting these results out; first event I've missed in 9 years and while you lot were all running around in freezing cold weather and lots of rain I was hacking round the nice and dry Manchester Velodrome realising just how far I've got to go before I'm fit to clean Chris Hoy's shoes.

Anyway, congrats to Ryan Prout (TGT) and Stacey Ward (Benfleet) for retaining their positions from Hadleigh; looking at the times it seems it was quite a battle for Ryan before he finally came through.

For the league Benfleet came in under the 100 for the second time although the Trotters were not that far behind and hosts Havering were pipped for 4th place by East Essex (the guys came good in my absence)

For division 2 it's my sad duty to report that no-one could beat Ford Fitness - come on guys, you don't want them back in Division 1 do you?

Hadleigh Downs - 26 October

The 2008/09 season started where the last season finished with fine performances from Ryan Prout (TGT) for the men and Stacey Ward (Benfleet) for the ladies with Stacey finishing in 9th place overall.

Benfleet mullered the rest of the field with local knowledge allowing them to achieve a wholly satisfying 79 points, over 110 points ahead of their nearest rivals (Trotters). Billericay were comfortably third and Havering won the battle of the also rans by taking a 26 point victory over East Essex.

In the second division both Pitsea and Phoenix struggled with incomplete teams which left them struggling for fourth place (Pitsea did it by 10 points); at the other end it was again a case of local knowledge as Castle Point took a 19 point victory over Ford Fitness and Barking coming in third.

The Result sheets can be selected by clicking on them below. Care - this year there are two sheets to complete:-

  • Scoresheet A contains the first 5 males, first 2 male vets, first 2 females and first female vet only. This must be returned to the race organiser as soon as possible to enable the results to be produced quickly.
  • Scoresheet B contains all other finishers for your club; this must be completed and passed to the race organiser with all scoring discs and payment for competitors subsequently.
